On Thursday, July 19th, the Propane Education and Research Council (PERC) is hosting a webinar featuring John Doswell, Vice President Sales and Marketing for Collins Bus Corporation, who will be discussing the NexBus propane type A bus platform.
As an alternative to conventional school buses, propane-powered vehicles offer extensive benefits for school districts and communities. With lower maintenance costs and fuel economies comparable to older diesel buses, propane buses offer savings that can add up significantly for large school fleets. Also, a number of school districts have been able to negotiate propane at prices significantly lower than current diesel prices. Portland (OR) Public Schools reported in June that the district is paying $0.90 per gallon for propane. With the lower maintenance and fuel costs, schools are showing savings in the hundreds of thousands. In addition to the cost savings, propane engines help reduce air quality issues with fewer smog-forming emissions than from diesel engines.
