San Diego Plumbing Fleet Gets Hybrids

One of San Diego’s certified green plumbers, Anderson Plumbing, Heating & Air, is adopting a more fuel-efficient vehicle option for their fleet: the diesel-electric hybrid Hino COE (cab-over engine). The fleet currently has one Class 5 Hino 195h diesel-electric hybrid, with two more to be added. Anderson reported averaging 14 miles per gallon (mpg) with the hybrid Hino compared to 8 mpg with the their previous Isuzu trucks.

Utilizing hybrid technology results in monetary fuel and maintenance savings and environmental benefits of petroleum displacement and greenhouse gas emission savings.  For example, say one of Anderson’s vehicles drives 15,000 miles a year. With this increased mpg (from 8 mpg to 14 mpg)  the fleet could see fuel cost savings of $3,008 and 804 gallons of diesel fuel displaced.
