A small but enthusiastic crowd was on hand yesterday to celebrate the inauguration of car2go’s new fleet of all-electric vehicles in Chula Vista. Fifteen smart fortwo, all-electric vehicles paraded down Third Avenue in downtown Chula Vista to mark the occasion. Mayor Cheryl Cox welcomed car2go and said the new electric cars were a big step in the city’s move towards alternative fuel vehicles. She said the city continued to push for more sustainable options while diversifying their transportation resources.
Car2go regional manager Mike Cully welcomed Chula Vista as the 11th North American city in the carsharing network. He said that the fifteen vehicles would be available for use in a 12 mile radius around Chula Vista but could also be driven and dropped off anywhere within the San Diego network.
The carsharing service now has over 300 vehicles in the San Diego region.
In addition to offering free membership and 30 free driving minutes to people who signed up with the event code, car2go also shared tasty cupcakes with everyone in attendance.
